The AI Traffic GA4 Doesn't Want You to See

52 AI platforms are sending traffic to your website

I catalogued them. All 52. Across 7 tiers.

And here's what caught me off guard: the one sending the most traffic is the one GA4 literally cannot see.

Google AI Overviews, those AI answer boxes at the top of search results, sends clicks to your site that look identical to regular organic search in GA4. Same source. Same medium. No flag, no separate row.

You can't tell the difference.

In this week's video, I walk through all 52 sources, where each one shows up in GA4, and the three blind spots where AI traffic goes completely invisible.

Here's one stat that puts the scale in perspective: ChatGPT alone accounts for 65 to 85 percent of all measurable AI referral traffic right now. But that share is shrinking fast. Perplexity is at 15 percent and climbing. Gemini jumped from 5 to 21 percent in a matter of months.

Right now, finding AI traffic in your GA4 is like playing Where's Waldo. It's scattered across your referral report, mixed in with 40 other sources, with no label.

The fix is one custom channel grouping. Set it up once, and suddenly AI traffic becomes a single, trackable row in your reports.

I show the exact setup in the video and explain which blind spots you can fix and which ones you just need to know about.
